OUR FAMILY STORY
Angelo & Mary Mafaro
Founders
More than fifty years ago, Angelo and Mary Mafaro took their four sons, a rotating oven and their dreams to the beautiful town of Maywood. The oven did not work and Angelo and the boys had to rebuild it. They also built stainless steel ovens to mount in trucks and "Hot Home Delivery" was born. With Mary's authentic Italian recipes and Angelo's keen business sense, it was no surprise Angelo's quickly became a town landmark and a success.
At one time, the family was operating in six different locations in Bergen County. Angelo's became the model for 22 other pizzerias in the area. Many of these were family and friends and also included former employees of the 'original' Angelo's. The Maywood store alone has employed more than 200 people over the last 5 decades, often acting as the first job for many young locals and teaching many what it means to put in an "Honest Day's Work".
Our loyal customers join us to celebrate birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and many other family events. We mostly see people who love good food, great service and like to support their local businesses. We've even added a few words to the local vocabulary like: "The 6&1" and "The CLT" and even the "Angelo's Special".
Despite all the growth, some things have never changed. The same rotating oven still cooks the old family recipes and the quality of the ingredients and the dedication of the staff still permeates every meal. Not bad for one man, one woman, four boys, and a broken oven.
